holding on

My 4 year old started pre-school this week. It’s a big change for us. It’s the first time she will spend any time out of our care. It’s only 2 days a week & she will still be with me 5 days a week, but I will enjoy those days even more knowing that next year she starts big school. In parenting there is a constant tension within the pull between holding on and letting go. I have always felt that if I moved through the stages slowly, if I held on & held close, then when it came time to let go in any way it would be easier. Today I believe this even more.  Yes we do eventually let go of everything we cherish in our lives. It all changes, but while it’s here & while it’s ours, whatever the beauty is in your life, enjoy it. Look at it closely, study it’s details, appreciate it. The holding on is just as important as the letting go.
