Day 18| January photo a day project 2018

18
Ava discovered her 1st wobbly tooth on New Years Eve 2011 while we were standing on the beach with friends & waiting for the fireworks. She was 5. It was her last Summer before she started school. As we stood, staring at the sky on the last day of 2011, I watched my 5 & 3 year olds jumping up and down with excitement “a wobbly tooth! A wobbly tooth!”… “The tooth fairy is coming!!”. I was taken by surprise by how emotional that moment was for me. Her first loose tooth was the first tooth she grew as a baby. Now her baby teeth were going to fall out one after the other. She was going to start school and her baby smile was going to slowly change. The first photo I took in this project on the 1st of January 2012 was of her pointing out that first loose tooth. Then during that January the tooth fell out. She started her first day of school with one missing tooth. This January is her last Summer before her last year of primary school and today she lost her last tooth. Between Jan 2012 and Jan 2018 she lost every baby tooth. There’s been 6 years of notes left out for the tooth fairy, gold coins and fairy dust discovered with delight under pillows. This is her last tooth and the first where she openly declares that she doesn’t believe in the tooth fairy. She does however still believe in gold coins and will still be leaving the tooth under her pillow one last time. I hope the tooth fairy leaves her a sprinkle of fairy dust for old times sake.
