Phil & Vanessa sneak peek | Sydney family photographer

A peek from a session we did recently for Vanessa, Phil & their baby girl Olivia. I am always kept inspired by each unique family or person we meet at our sessions. Each one is different from the last and each have their own story they allow us to have a glimpse of. What people have in common though, when they invite a photographer to document their family, is a love for their story as it is right now. I love reflecting back to people the treasure I see in their lives in that brief moment I am witness to it.

Good Friday | Sydney photographer

Good Friday in Sydney. The skates are hand me downs from my generous friend whose daughter grew out of them before they were even used. Have you ever owned something that you put off using & by the time you decided to use it, it was too late? I think most parents, including myself can relate to being given clothing or shoes for their new baby & putting them away until they grow into them, only to get them out later & realise they have already grown too big for them.

Ava loved the skates. Her quotes were, “I am never going to take these skates off” & “my next birthday is going to be a roller skating party with a roller skate cake”. So I have until December to figure out how to create that cake (not long enough for me!).

We had a picnic & hung out long enough to see the full moon appear in the sky & reflect across the water. Photography teaches me to look for beauty and appreciate it. My growing children remind me that all the beauty is fleeting and moves along quickly like a sun setting or a bird flying fast across the sky. Before photography or children, life had taught me that later is not the time to be thankful for what has been given now.

Happy Easter.

woof-fest | Sydney event photographer

This was an interesting job, with a couple of small challenges. Firstly I am allergic to dogs, but that didn’t stop me attending woof-fest 2012 when Western Sydney Parklands  hired us as the official photographers for the event. Also it had rained heavily in the week leading up to the event and the grounds were wet and muddy, but that didn’t stop me getting down on the ground to get close to our little subjects, so lets just say that the shoes and the clothes I wore to this job had to make their way to the bin the next day. Also it was extremely bright & sunny which was not ideal for photography. Thankfully I love a challenge & I enjoy documenting events. My sneezes aside, the dogs were adorable all basking in their very own day out. There was puppy face painting, dog washing, stalls with dog related products, fun competitions and demonstration teams. RSPCA inspectors & education officers also attended. Surrounded by over 1,000 people attending the event, aimed at raising awareness of Western Sydney Parklands off-leash area available to dog owners, I felt a little out of place holding a camera instead of a much loved dog. At one point Pete & I walked past a stall and we were offered a ‘Pet Barn’ promotional bag & Pete said, “No thanks, we don’t have a pet”, I think the lady was speechless. It probably wasn’t a line she expected to hear at woof-fest. I quickly covered by adding, “but my mum does” & took a bag so we didn’t look too strange. Honestly I thought this event was a great idea. I am a fan of anything that brings people & community together. I think these dogs will happily bring their owners back next year.

Thanks for stopping by James, shame it wasn’t a close up of your dog. It’s not quite the same but I spotted a glimpse of our car in your pics haha!
